The Three Pillars of Nara University of Education

The three pillars of Nara University of Education

1 Small-Group Instruction

We attach great importance to student participation in lessons and to giving our students all the support they need to complete their graduation thesis. Only a relatively small university can give this level of training - in addition to their academic attainments, we develop our students' communication and presentation skills and ensure they gain a well-rounded education.
Surveys of our graduates consistently showextremely high satisfaction rates of about 80%, the most common reason for this being the close collaboration between students and staff. This "small-group instruction" is one of the major pillars of our university.

2 Education which is steeped in the traditions of Nara

Our campus, in the center of Japan's ancient capital Nara, is surrounded by rich greenery and world heritage sites. Nara's unique culture and environment feature widely in our lessons, events and educational activities, opportunities are created for deepening our students' understanding of the history of the region and we cooperate intensely with the adjacent National Museum. These experiences enable our students to appreciate Japan's traditional culture more deeply and what their appetite for disseminating it on the international scene.

3 "Experience - based" Lifetime Education

Our university is actively implementing a program for practical career education together with neighboring institutions and regions, as represented by the "key coping skills for education staff" project implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science for nurturing superior teachers.
In addition to this education program, in which future teachers go to participating primary schools in the region and experience different methods for dealing with real problems in the real setting , we also deploy student volunteers to work in schools and institutions under the auspices of participating education committees. These experiences help students gather the practical knowledge to do what society expects them to do in their jobs.
